Auto Mechanic (Air-Conditioning)

Summary:

The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Auto mechanic (Air-Conditioning) position in the General Service Office. The U.S. Mission in Nigeria supports Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA). All genders are welcome to apply.

Duties

Incumbent performs skilled workshop and Journeyman Auto Air-Conditioning (AC) Mechanic work, involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of all vehicle Air-Conditioning equipment and systems on all U.S. Government Owned Vehicles (GOV) and Boats. Performs skilled workshop and journeyman auto air-conditioning mechanic work involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of all vehicle and Boat air-conditioning equipment and systems. 

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required. 
  • Minimum of six (6) months Vocational training on vehicles and boat air-conditioning systems is required.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in repair and maintenance of air-conditioning in boats and vehicles. Must be a professional technician in troubleshooting and repairs of air-conditioning system in American vehicles and marine boats is required.

Skills And Abilities: 

  • Must hold a valid Nigeria local driver’s license and must have held a driver’s license for at least five years. 
  • Incumbent must be able to operate different types of vehicles such as utility and passenger vehicles, medium trucks, and forklifts.
  • Must be able interpret shop manuals, parts catalogs, and diagrams, and understand technical language of the trade.
  • Professional A/C technician who must understand technical manuals, brochures, workshop manuals and standard operating procedures relating to vehicles and  Boats air-conditioning operations.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and detemine the causes of malfunction and be able to use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot vehicle problems. Must have basic computer skills to use proprietary software and prepare simple reports. Ability to lift 70 Ibs without mechanical aids.
