Chinese Interpreter
Job Summary:
- The Chinese Interpreter will be responsible for facilitating effective communication between Chinese-speaking individuals and English-speaking counterparts in various settings, such as business meetings, conferences, legal proceedings, medical appointments, and other situations requiring language interpretation.
- The successful candidate will possess strong linguistic skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to convey messages accurately and impartially.
Key Responsibilities:
- To translate Chinese Language to English Language and vice versa.
- To run errand on behalf of Chinese supervisor and give report in Chinese Language.
- Any other assignment as assigned by the Chinese supervisor.
- Consecutive Interpretation: Provide accurate consecutive interpretation between Chinese and English speakers, ensuring clarity and fidelity to the original message in diverse settings.
- Simultaneous Interpretation: Conduct simultaneous interpretation during conferences, meetings, or events, utilizing specialized equipment when required, to convey real-time communication.
- Prepare and Research: Familiarize oneself with the subject matter of the interpretation in advance, conducting research to understand technical terms, industry jargon, or any specialized vocabulary that may arise during assignments.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate a deep understanding of Chinese culture and customs, recognizing nuances in communication that may affect interpretation, and convey those subtleties appropriately.
- Maintain Neutrality: Interpret messages accurately without injecting personal opinions, bias, or altering the meaning of the original content.
- Confidentiality: Adhere to strict confidentiality standards, especially when dealing with sensitive or private information during interpretation assignments.
- Communication with Clients: Communicate effectively with clients, event organizers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure smooth coordination of interpretation services.
- Adaptability: Adapt to various environments, industries, and subject matters, demonstrating flexibility in handling diverse interpretation assignments.
- Professionalism: Represent the language service provider or organization with professionalism, demonstrating punctuality, reliability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality interpretation services.
- Language Proficiency: Maintain a high level of proficiency in both Chinese and English, staying current with language developments, slang, and idiomatic expressions.
- Documentation: Provide written summaries or reports of interpreted conversations or events as required, ensuring accurate documentation of the interpreted content.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) and English.
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Interpretation, Linguistics, or related field is preferred.
- Professional certification in interpretation is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
