The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Soccer Coach to develop and implement training programs, provide guidance and support to student-athletes, and contribute to the overall success of AUN soccer program.
DETAILED LISTING OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Head Coach in developing a comprehensive and strategic game plan for each scheduled contest throughout the season.
- Assist in conditioning the team by working on their fitness level, including strength, endurance, speed, and flexibility.
- Instill discipline and respect within the students on and off the field.
- Ensure the equipment and facilities are maintained.
- To assist in scheduling, supervising, maintaining training equipment, and organizing team events.
- To assist in ensuring the safety and well-being of the students during training and competition.
- Help track how students are doing and offer helpful feedback.
- Assist in planning and conducting effective and progressive training sessions.
- Provide individualized coaching to enhance players’ technical skills, tactical understanding, and overall performance.
- Foster a positive and supportive learning environment to maximize player development.
- Collaborate with the Head Coach in identifying and recruiting talented student-athletes.
- Analyze game footage and provide insights to enhance team performance.
- Assist with in-game decision-making and adjustments as needed.
- Encourage and promote a culture of academic excellence and balance between athletics and academics.
- Mentor and guide student-athletes in their personal and athletic development.
- Foster a positive team culture that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
- Assist in creating a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Stay informed about current rules and participate in required compliance training.
- Represent the university and soccer program positively in public events and functions.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements for the position:
- An NCE/Diploma in Physical and Health Education OR a Coaching Certificate from the Nigerian Institute of Sports.
- Two (2) years successful coaching experience.
- Strong knowledge of soccer techniques, strategies, and rules.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
- Commitment to the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes.
Other requirements, abilities for the position:
- Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program.
- Proven knowledge AUN’s Policies governing athletics and recreation.
- Ability to interpret AUN’s Policies and Procedures.
- Ability to manage budget and personnel, and coordinate athletics activities.
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serve as a role model for all university staff and students.
