Role Overview
- The Surveyor is responsible for reviewing, validating, and ensuring the accuracy of survey designs and plans for oil and gas pipeline projects.
- This role ensures that survey methodologies, data, and designs comply with technical standards, project requirements, and industry best practices.
- The engineer collaborates with project teams to optimize survey processes and mitigate risks related to design errors.
Key Responsibilities
Survey Design Review and Validation:
- Vet survey designs, drawings, and related documentation for compliance with project specifications and regulatory standards.
- Ensure the accuracy and reliability of survey data, including topographic, geotechnical, and geospatial information.
- Identify inconsistencies, errors, or omissions in survey data and recommend corrective actions.
Technical Support:
- Provide expertise on survey methodologies, tools, and technologies used in pipeline routing, alignment, and construction.
- Advise on the application of GIS, GPS, and other geospatial tools for survey activities.
- Support the project team in resolving technical issues related to survey data and design.
Collaboration with Stakeholders:
- Coordinate with survey contractors, design consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on survey objectives and methodologies.
- Conduct technical discussions and provide inputs to ensure survey designs meet project goals.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure survey activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of survey deliverables.
Risk Management and Optimization:
- Identify risks related to survey design and propose mitigation strategies.
- Optimize survey processes to improve efficiency and reduce project timelines.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to survey design vetting, including review reports, checklists, and recommendations.
- Present findings and recommendations to the project management team and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or specialized certification in Surveying or Geospatial Sciences is a plus.
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in survey design, validation, and vetting for large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably in the oil and gas sector.
- Proven track record in managing survey-related activities for pipeline projects.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in survey tools and technologies, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS software, and GPS systems.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards for pipeline design and construction.
- Strong understanding of topographic, geotechnical, and environmental considerations in pipeline projects.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Professional certifications such as RICS, PLS, or equivalent are advantageous.
